Oral Source of Iron for Newborn Piglets

Iron Blast™ contains carbonyl iron (600mg/dose), and is one of the safest known formats when giving oral iron. Even exceedingly high oral doses of carbonyl iron, compared to commonly used oral ferrous sulfate, do not induce diarrhea or other detrimental effects in pigs. Use of an oral iron format in piglets also does not induce the problems associated with injectable iron formats, such as needle induced swelling. Iron Boost™ has been shown (below graph) to maintain hematocrit levels as effectively as a 200mg iron dextran injectible format.
